This one-day workshop is designed to provide fintech entrepreneurs, investors, counsel and other professionals with a general introduction to the unique and sometimes counter-intuitive way that banking is regulated in the United States. In addition to an overview of the basic structure of U.S. bank regulation and the key government regulators, the program will also examine the specific regulatory frameworks that apply to core banking activities most relevant to financial technologies, including payments, lending and consumer protection issues. The program will also address the regulatory implications of providing services to banks, the emerging debate over a special “fintech” bank charter, and the unique cultural differences and challenges that come with operating within a highly-regulated industry.
